Neurotitan gallery in Berlin will host a group exhibition of five Belgrade-based visual artists, titled EXIT THROUGH THE GLORY HOLE: Pervert’s Guide to Belgrade’s Graphic Underground, initiated by the Dis-patch collective and curated by Relja Bobić.
After 9 annual editions of Dis-patch festival, the D-p collective is focusing on individual, curated projects which also span out into the fields of visual arts, informal creative education and trans-disciplinary projects. The five Serbian artists will have a special show and a 3-week long residency in gallery that boasts 2 decades of tradition in supporting the new avant-garde movements and global visual tendencies.
The specific, ambivalent and uncanny “flavor” of Belgrade will dominate the entire vast space of the Neurotitan Gallery. As Le Corbusier once said, “Belgrade is the ugliest city in the world in the most beautiful place in the world”.
This sort of ambivalence is something these featured artists – along with the majority of population of Belgrade – are facing each day. The absurd mix of impressions such as “the gently decaying stratum of history”, “where hospitality crackles in the air”, “torn and spilt, as if it never exist”, “the slightly disheveled air”, “full of forgotten people” or “old for its age” are all equally correct if we speak of Belgrade. The artists featured at this show rightfully represent this ambiguity, through a mix of techniques, styles and motives which reflect their personal artistic histories, as well as communal feeling, or as some would say – “vibe”.
Over a period of three weeks in June 2012, a group of five artists will be presented together for the first time – EmaEmaEma, Fat Kid Beny, Fuck New Rave, Weedzor and Д.Л.Т. Although all of the invited artists have a long history of activity within the local “st***t art” movements and subcultures, one of the main goals of the exhibition is for their work to be seen in a new context, and to offer a chance to the authors to realize site-specific works specially for this project.
EmaEmaEma is a visual artist from Belgrade. She draws everything she dreams of. She would like to touch the horizon.
Weedzor is a graduated graphic designer, illustrator and street artist from Belgrade. He has taken part at numerous festivals as an author. Lately he has been mostly painting on canvases.
д.л.т. aka Dulait is an artist dedicated to graphic interventions in public space, at the same time involved in photography and more “classic” techniques of drawing and painting. He used to be a member of the artistic duo Krš in Belgrade.
FuckNewRave aka Stefan Unković is a graphic designer, illustrator, street artist and DIY freak from Belgrade.
Fat Kid Beny is an illustrator and graffiti-tattoo artist from Belgrade. Art rawer than what you have been used to.
The audience will have a chance to get featured artists’ works in various formats and for reasonable prices: hi-quality prints, t-shirts, postcards, stickers, buttons, photos… The artworks will be taking shape over the entire duration of the artists’ stay, and will be on display in their final and full form at the exhibition closing.
