We bring you a selection of Balkan-related artists to keep your eye on in the coming year
“You want it spicy? You want it hot? We cook so yummy yummy! Banditos hungry hungry! We make it sweet like honey!” Backed up with some Mad Decently greasy ragga/dubstep beats, wrapped in oriental folk harmonies and topped with spicy lyric references in obscure English-Slavic mixtures, Las Balkanieras are indeed the true queens of Balkan dancehall riddim.
The Russian/Bosnian/Croatian trio of Mi$$ Ru$$ia, La Dona Bo$anch€ra and Balkani€ra M€diteranovich kick ass on so many levels, it’s almost needless to explain.
After releasing singles such as Ciribilibela, Yu Go! and Leggins on the German dancehall label Germaica, the ladies have signed a deal for a major Croatian label “Croatia Records” in 2010, spending much of the last year on mini tours around Europe, including Siberia, Croatia, Finland, Slovakia, Germany, Poland and the UK.
Las Balkanieras will be busy this year as well, so check their tour page
to see if they might be hitting your way soon.
