Ones to Watch 2012: Numen / For Use

We bring you a selection of Balkan-related artists to keep your eye on in the coming year

The Croatian/Austrian design collective of Sven Jonke, Christoph Katzler and Nikola Radeljkovic are well-known for their Tape installations – kilometers of transparent sticky tape, shaped in giant cocoon-like forms set in outdoor public spaces, inviting visitors to step inside and explore.

They are also renowned for their geometrical “spy-glass” light objects and elaborate stage designs for theatre plays and performances.

Their latest project Net (premiered in Belgium last October) builds on the concept of Tape installations, using layers of net connected to form a “floating landscape” open for visitors to climb in. The result is an “op-art social sculpture, related to topics of instability, levitation and regression”.
